Hanoï, 25 m² and a four-poster bed

Hanoï announces the journey from the doorway: a dark wooden four-poster bed, silk cushions embroidered with elephants, painted panels above the headboard. It is the line that runs through the whole house, Italy and Asia gathered under a Provençal roof. Pale walls, stone floor. Nothing shouts; everything settles.

Twenty-five square metres for two changes the way a room is lived in. You walk around the bed, you unpack without stepping over your luggage, you drink your morning coffee without getting in each other's way. The window opens onto the greenery of the grounds, edged by the Aigues Brun stream and its century-old trees.

The 160 cm double bed is dressed in white linen. Facing it, a dark wooden chest of drawers carries the HD television and leaves room for a small table. The private bathroom, stone again, is built around a level walk-in shower, with a basin and a bulb-lit mirror. The air conditioning is yours alone to set; add a courtesy tray for tea and coffee, free Wi-Fi throughout the house and free parking on site. The room is non-smoking.

It suits couples staying more than one night, the ones who want room enough to really unpack.

Its neighbour, the Venezia room, offers the same size with a balcony door. In the evening you only have to cross the estate: the restaurant serves from 19:00 to 23:00, seven days a week — Italian and Thai cooking, sharing boards, house cocktails — and you can read the menu before you come down. Rates vary with the season; breakfast is €14 extra.
